Christmas At Our House

Christmas was a hit at our house. My kids got up at 5:30 am and started opening presents. I was able to stretch the present opening out until about 8:15 am. Not bad. My son loved his Mickey Mouse Choo Choo train and his Mickey cars and his Mickey plate and his Mickey books.... can you tell who his hero is?

My daughter opened all her presents and then laughed and said "Santa forgot to give me a DS". She's 5! She just learned what a DS was last week. Mercy. But my dad became her hero later in the day. He got her the Vtech handheld and she thinks it's a DS and I am not telling her any differently.

My husband surprised me on Christmas morning. He ordered me the mini version of Kirsten from American Girl. I have wanted this doll since I was 10 and I was so upset that she was being retired this year. The bigger version was already on back order, but the mini doll is just fine with me. I cried for a good 10 minutes after he gave it to me. (I am a dork. I know it.)

My family came later Christmas Day and the house was a little chaotic but it was so much fun having them all together. I took the easy way out this year and I gave them all Blue Tooths. They love them! It's actually pleasant to talk to my mother now because she is using her Blue Tooth instead of the speaker option on her phone.

My Mother In Law and Nephew have been here since Christmas Eve and leave tomorrow morning. Please forgive me for my lack of posting. I've been spending as much time with both of them as I can.

Santa has already been to our house and left quite a few gifts for the kids! I can't wait for this morning to get here. The kids are going to be so surprised.

(By the way, I only spent $70 in cash on all those presents. The rest were bought with my Amazon.com gift cards from Swagbucks!)

And yes, I am aware that I go a little overboard on Christmas. My kids don't get many toys other than their birthday and Christmas. So we do Christmas big.

I also got quite a few gifts for my nephew who is here with us for Christmas. My mother in law, who is raising him, couldn't afford to buy him much for Christmas, so we stepped in. I hope he likes what we picked. 15 year old boys can be so moody!

My husband's mother struggles financially and we wanted to surprise her with some money at Christmas. Last year I put the money inside a card and put it inside a box, inside a bigger box, etc. There ended up being 10 boxes in total (all were wrapped). And when she got to the card, it had a $5 bill in front of the cash and she was like "How nice", then she spread the money out and gasped in shock. It was awesome!

My friend's sister just underwent an emergency c-section because she was having seizures due to pre-clampsia. Please pray that her sister recovers quickly and the baby is ok because it's about a month early. My friend is pretty upset since her sister is about 1500 miles away and she can't be there with her right now.

Update: The baby is here. She is a little over 17 inches and 4 lbs. Her heart and lungs are underdeveloped and they expect her to be in the NICU for 3 weeks. We don't know yet if the seizure the mother had caused any damage or not (to the mother).

A Surprise In The Mailbox

Earlier this month, my daughter (she's 5) wrote Santa her very first letter (that she wrote herself). We addressed it and mailed it to Santa.

Today, she got a reply! We weren't expecting a reply. It's in a festive envelope and it's a really nice letter from Santa himself telling her how proud he is of her and how one of his elves told him what she wanted (which was awesome because we are doing Elf on the Shelf). She is on Cloud 9!

This letter was from our local post office, I just thought it was so nice and wonderful of them to do such a thing!

This morning, I was featured in an article by Lesley Mitchell in the Salt Lake City Tribune. (You can read the article here). I wanted to take a moment to welcome the readers of the Salt Lake City Tribune and provide you with some information.

My name is Kristin and I am a Disney addict. We are a middle class family living on a middle class budget and we can't afford a Disney vacation every year.Well, we couldn't until I started applying our savings from being a Smart Shopper to the Disney fund and it's amazing how quickly it has grown! In just 6 months, I have saved almost $2,000 for the trip! I created this blog to provide people with the tools and resources to save money and help them realize how they too can afford a Disney vacation (or any big purchase).

Lesley found my blog a couple months ago and decided to try out my 5 A Day feature. Each day, Monday - Friday, I email 5 companies and I post a list of the companies I emailed so you can do it as well. I always give them honest feedback on what I think of their product. If I have a valid complaint, I complain. Just remember when you complain they usually ask for the production codes on the package so they can investigate it further and make sure it isn't a wide spread issue.

Last night our Wii wouldn't turn on. It had no power. But since my friend had a similar issue a few months ago, I already knew how to fix it. Should yours ever not power on, you need to reset your power cord. To do this, you need to unplug it out of the wall and out of the Wii and leave it unplugged for at least 2 minutes. After that, ours powered right back up!

Yesterday was crazy busy

I was so busy yesterday! It started off with a trip to Target to buy last minute Christmas gifts and food for our party last night. I found my son a 5 pack of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Matchbox Cars. He is going to be so excited!

I also went to Hallmark and was able to use all 4 of the $5/$5 coupons I had printed (told you about that here) and got my daughter 4 packs of Silly Bandz and 4 greeting cards.

Then I went to Aldi's and got milk. It is up to $2.29 a gallon there, but still $1.60 cheaper than milk at our Walmart.

We got home long enough for me to see that blogger deleted Hip2Save and get very, very upset about that. Because if it can happen to her, it could happen to me! I'm looking into taking action before that happens though, so be sure you are using the url www.couponingtodisney.com. That will never change.

After that, it was off to my daughter's Christmas party at school. She made 8 ornaments at school this year (she's in kindergarten)! I am so excited. My tree is finally getting full. My husband and I only had 4 ornaments when we got married in 2001.

We got home and it was time to clean up the house to get ready for our Christmas party we hosted last night for our Sunday School class. It started at 7 and it was so much fun! We played the Wii and Catch Phrase and we are going to have to do it at least once a month! They didn't leave until 11:30 and my son (he's 2.5) stayed up the whole time. He went to bed at 11:30 and still got up at 6:30 (his usual time). Ugh! I thought he'd at least sleep in a little.

And now I have to catch up on everything. There is so much to do! But my husband is off work today and he's watching the kids so I can catch up.

But, I do have one request from you all, please. One of my friends lost her very best friend this week. She was murdered by her ex. Please keep her and her friend's family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.

Now let's catch up! I'm going to be in the Salt Lake City Tribune tomorrow and I am hoping that brings new traffic!

What presents are you the most excited to give to people this year?

I am excited to give my kids the Vtech Vmotion gaming system. I got my son a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse game and my daughter is getting Scooby Doo. They are going to enjoy it so much!

I am excited to give my Mother in Law a digital picture frame with pictures of my Father In Law on it. (he passed away in 2008)

I am excited to give my nephew his Chrsitmas gifts. Mother in law is raising him and she can't afford to buy him much for Christmas and so we stepped in to help. I got him a speaker system for his Ipod, a portable 7 in screen for his ipod (to watch his movies on. He has cerebral palsy and he lost his peripheral vision earlier this month) and a hard drive for his Xbox 360. Well Santa got him all that. ;)

So what are you most excited to give this year? And while we are on this topic, what would you say was the best gift you ever gave someone?

For me it would be the Charles Dicken's Department 56 Police Station I surprised my grandmother with quite a few years ago. It was retired and she didn't realize that you could buy it on Ebay, and so I did and she was blown away that I was able to do that for her. It was wonderful to see her reaction.
