Walmart changes how it participates in Black Friday sales
In reaction to the death of one of their associates on Black Friday 2008, Walmart is drastically changing the way they participate in Black Friday sales.
1. A majority of stores will remain open 24 hours leading up to Black Friday. That way crowds to not gather at the doors and rush in as soon as they are open.
2. Each big ticket item will have it's own specific location in the store and customers will line up at the item. When the products go on sale at 5 AM on Friday, the workers will hand each customer the item they were waiting on in order of when they arrived in the line. The negative impact to customers is that you will need to bring multiple people with you to the sale so you have a chance to get all the big ticket items.
3. There were be more people greeters at the entrances to keep traffic from bottle necking.
And that is all I know so far. Walmart is keeping a tight lid on all the details. You can read the article here.
