This is my first time doing the 5 a Day, so this might be a silly question, but do you ask for coupons in your email?
Anne, the best thing to do is compliment their product. For example,
I e-mailed Campbell's the other day and thanked them for their Spaghetti-Os product because it's an easy, nutritious, affordable meal for my son.
They responded by saying they would be sending me some coupons for free Campbell's products.
One company (I can't immediately think of it) said on their customer feedback page that they do not fulfill request for coupons or free products. But I sent them an e-mail anyway complimenting their product. (now that I think about it more, I think it was Schick). They responded that they would send me a coupon. If I had outright asked for a coupon they probably would have denied it since it was listed as their policy to not fulfill requests.

I got Pepperidge Farm coupons a while back. If you save them for when a store does them 10/$10 ($1 each bag) you can get FREE goldfish if that store also doubles coupons. Woo hoo!
Thanks! I was about to ask the same question about asking for coupons! I'm new also, great idea!
